“It has been good to see our outstanding Ofsted report followed by a strong set of GCSE results”, said Gary Lewis, Headteacher at the school. More than 73% of students achieved 5 or more passes at C grade or above and 62% of students hit the 5 A*-C including English and Maths measure. The national results have dipped downward in English and some other subjects this year following pressure from the Department of Education and this has been reflected in Gordano’s results.
It was still a tremendous performance for the school which was recently judged to be outstanding by Ofsted. Top performers in the year group included Adam Stevens who achieved no fewer than 11 A* grades. Miles Chandler, Olivia Withers and Suzannah King each secured 10 A*s and an A. More than 20 students scooped eight or more A grades. Many of these Year 11 students also achieved excellent results in AS Levels published last week.
Mr Lewis added, “This has been a record breaking year for us with more than 20 students achieving 10 A grades or better but it’s not just the achievement of our most able students that we are celebrating as young people of all abilities have been successful in our comprehensive school.”
“It is so good to see hard work rewarded”, concluded Mr Lewis. “Congratulations to our students and a huge thank you to our staff and parents who have coached and supported our young people to success.”
